Clean energy to rural schools, a dynamic increase to the improvement of student performance

A huge energy savings as a result of longer lifespans from LED solutions further enhances sustainability, not to mention increasing productivity and lowering costs on improving day-to-day life for students and staff will contribute to long-term departmental goals which potentially create a better learning environment. 


Lowering Costs


A growing concern of school closures in many areas of the country have advanced the 16 selectees to the next phase and entered them in cooperative agreements with DOE for up to $15 million in awards, with plans to invest in 320 school facilities across 25 states and directly benefitting over 123,000 students and 9,100 teachers. During this phase, the scope of work is expected to update schools' with lighting solution's that should significantly reduce energy consumption and expenses.  


Increase Productivity


Miami Dade County Public Schools is 1 of 16 selectees that are partnering with over 100 entities, including local education agencies (LEAs), energy service companies, utility companies, state and local government offices, and federally funded research and development centers, after being awarded a $15 million 2024 Renew America's School Prize and grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The grant will set the stage for future persistent energy projects, so the improvements invigorate local communities. However, this project is split into two phases, beginning with needed upgrades in identified school facilities and afterward's renovating schools' with the remaining funds per their agreement with the DOE. Another 4.7 million will be contributed to the project by Miami - Dade County Public School, providing another contribution for schools achieving healthier teaching environments. With the ability to transform spaces, LED lights infuse the classrooms' with newfound visibility. With every lighting design improvement, M-DCPS will continue to place the focus on academic success, as it unlocks the potential of student development in the environment.



Purpose of this article is to enhance the audience's knowledge on their options when selecting the optimal investments. Lighting is cost-effective permitting its pivotal consideration for construction on educational establishments. Not to mention the overall learning benefits that will improve academic performance, encourage concentration, and student’s behaviors.
